What is movement-focused chiropractic?

It is chiropractic that treats how you move, not just where it hurts. I settle the acute problem, find the movement pattern behind it, and give you a plan so it stops coming back. Standard appointments are 30 minutes rather than 10, and a full hour when we need to go deeper, which is what makes that possible.

Chiropractic consultation & treatment

If you have pain or stiffness, start here. Spinal and limb joint adjustments, hands-on muscle release and massage, and rehab based on what your assessment actually indicated rather than a generic cookie-cutter plan. $120 for the first hour, $95 for a 30-minute follow-up.

Movement Plan Analysis

If you have no current injuries but want to get more out of your body, start here. A full mobility assessment that finds the weak links holding your range back, and a personalised routine to address them. $160 for one hour.

What the work looks like

What does three months of mobility look like?

Here’s my own mobility progress from following my own plan for about three months.

Who is this for?

Two kinds of people, and they are the same problem at two stages.

The first is in pain or stiffness and wants to know why. A back that keeps flaring, a shoulder that will not settle, a knee that complains after every run. We settle the immediate problem, then work out what caused it so it stops coming back.

The second has no pain at all and wants more out of their body. Deeper positions, better control, a body that keeps up with the surfing or the lifting for another few decades. We test how you actually move, find the weak links, and build a plan around them.

Plenty of people arrive as the first and end up as the second. All ages, demographics and levels of health and fitness are welcome, and if your shoulder, hip or knee is part of the problem, we address it.

In the clinic

What does treatment actually involve?

Assessment first, then hands-on treatment, then a plan. A typical session runs 30 minutes, and your first consultation and the Movement Plan Analysis are a full hour, because there is more to work through.

A usual visit starts with a warm-up massage while I get up to date on how you have been. From there it is joint adjustments where they are needed, hands-on muscle release, muscle testing to work out which muscles are compensating for others, and rehab you can actually do between visits.

Thirty minutes is what makes that possible rather than a ten-minute adjust and go.

What does it cost?

An initial consultation is $120 for one hour. A follow-up is $95 for 30 minutes. A Movement Plan Analysis, which is the full mobility assessment and personalised routine, is $160 for one hour. Treatments are health fund rebatable if you have chiropractic cover as an extra, and you can claim at the time of payment or later with an invoice. Full services and pricing.

Where are you, and when are you open?

I practise from Restore Health Clinic at 29 Lantana Avenue, Wheeler Heights, on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Full opening hours, the address and my phone number are at the bottom of every page on this site.

Common questions

Does the adjustment hurt?

Most people find chiropractic treatment comfortable, and many leave feeling immediate relief. Some techniques involve a bit of firm pressure, and occasionally you might feel a little sore afterward (similar to how you’d feel after a good workout). I always work within your comfort level and adjust my approach based on your feedback, so please never hesitate to speak up.

Do you just crack backs?

The "cracking" sound you might have heard about is simply gas releasing from a joint as it moves – it’s a harmless yet satisfying side effect of what we are really trying to achieve – joint movement! Adjustments are just one tool in my kit. Depending on what you need, I may also use softer techniques that involve no cracking at all, so if the idea of it makes you nervous, just let me know.

Is Chiropractic safe?

Yes! Chiropractic is one of the most thoroughly researched and widely used forms of manual therapy in the world. It has an excellent safety record, particularly for common complaints like back and neck pain. Before any treatment, I’ll always take a thorough history and assessment to make sure chiropractic is appropriate for you. If I ever feel something is outside my scope or needs further investigation, I’ll tell you and refer you to the right person. Chiropractors actually have the lowest insurance premiums of any healthcare profession in Australia!

How are Chiropractors, Physiotherapists and Osteopaths different?

All three professions work with the muscles and joints to reduce pain and improve how your body moves – there’s more overlap than most people realise. Traditionally, chiropractors are known for spinal adjustments, physios for exercise rehab, and osteopaths for whole-body manual therapy, but in practice the lines are pretty blurry. My style sits somewhere in the middle – I’m registered as a chiropractor, but I incorporate a lot of muscle testing, muscle release, and targeted rehab that you’d more commonly associate with physiotherapy. Many of my patients tell me I feel more like a physio who also does adjustments. At the end of the day, the profession matters less than finding someone who actually listens, does a thorough assessment, and tailors care to you.
