Handstand coaching

Structured training for complete beginners through to people refining advanced skills. Strength, balance, mobility and body awareness all develop through this one skill.

Why train handstands?

Because one skill develops strength, balance, mobility and body awareness at the same time, and they depend on each other. Ten years of acrobatic training is where the movement side of my clinical work comes from, and it is still the clearest way I know to show someone what their body can be taught to do.

Who is handstand training for?

Anyone who wants to get upside down, at any starting point. Didn’t everyone want to do these as a child? Whether you’re chasing the thrill of finally holding it away from the wall, want a fun and challenging addition to your training, or simply love the idea of being upside down again, handstand coaching is a structured, supportive way to get there.

I work with complete beginners through to those refining more advanced handstand skills, although if you’re an elite level gymnast or Cirque du Soleil performer, I probably can’t help.

What does a one-to-one session involve?

A completely personalised hour. I analyse what level you are up to and identify the things holding you back most, then we work through drills that address them with in-the-moment feedback. Whether you’re a complete beginner or have been working on handstands for a while, I can help.

Location and how to book. The location is up to you. I can meet you at your home, outside, in a neutral location, or I can organise a studio space hire. Because that means variable travel time and costs, this service is not on the online booking system. Email hello@keegansmovementlab.com and we will organise a session that suits us both.

Is there a class instead?

Saturdays, 10–11am at Just Train Gym, Cromer, $20 for the hour. Numbers are small and I do sometimes cancel, so check the booking page for this week’s session before you come.

The class is designed for complete beginners and intermediate students, taking you from never going upside down to your first 10-second hold and beyond.

We focus on proper technique and time-tested drills that build the strength and control to reliably stay upside down. The classes are community focused and designed to get you to a level where you can join the handstand meetups I organise around the Northern Beaches.
